Man Who Gives Free Haircuts To The Homeless Was Just Gifted His Own Barbershop

At times, it can seem like the world is a dismal place. Though you may be tempted to write off everyone except your closest friends and family members, don’t. The only way to improve upon what others have collectively created is to be the change you wish to see. A man who has done just that — and has even been rewarded for it — is Brennon Jones.

A year ago, the barber made headlines when he started offering free haircuts to Philadelphia’s homeless. He said at the time, “Totally free. Feed em, provide them with clothing, toiletries, the whole nine yards.”

To this day, he continues giving free haircuts to strangers. But now, he will have his own barbershop to help others — all thanks to another barber who decided to pay it forward. Fox 35 News reports that Sean Johnson was moved by when Jones was doing, so he gave the good Samaritan his own shop!

Said Jones, “He said listen, I’ve got a building I want you to come check out. He said do you like this place?  I said yeah I like it, he tossed me the key and said it’s yours.” Reportedly, Johnson was planning to expand his barbershop down the street. But then he met Jones.

“It wasn’t about me giving a barbershop, when you look at the homeless and the things that they need, I looked at it as more. I built something and I want to see it keep going and I want to see it do a great thing,” Johnson said.

This development was an answer to Jones’ prayers. Apparently, he didn’t know how he was going to keep giving haircuts during the winter months. “I just continue to rely on my faith, God brought me this far I know he’s not gonna leave me now,” he said.

In January of this year, when Jones had just started giving haircuts, he told the press:

“So many people walk by and don’t even acknowledge these guys who need help. They look down on people they don’t even know. I just wanted to provide something different than some change or a couple dollars. I’m blessed with a talent, so why not share it and make someone’s day? I just wanted to give back.”

The new shop will open next month, with days set exclusively to give haircuts to the homeless.

Approximately 1.56 million people — or about 0.5 percent — of the US population was homeless at one time or another between October 2008 and September 2009.
