Texas Woman With ‘F**k Trump’ Decal Adds Sheriff’s Name After Being Arrested

If there’s one thing most people don’t like, it’s being told what to do. Texas resident Karen Fonseca is no exception.

Last week, Fonseca was arrested by a local sheriff who she says disagrees with her political opinions. She claims he was offended by the decal on the back of her truck which reads,  “FUCK TRUMP AND FUCK YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM.”

The story went viral after Fort Bend Sheriff Troy Nehls posted a picture of the decal to Facebook. He wrote in the caption:

“I have received numerous calls regarding the offensive display on this truck as it is often seen along FM 359. If you know who owns this truck or it is yours, I would like to discuss it with you. Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification to it.”

Commenters were quick to criticize the law enforcement worker. Many people claimed his actions were a fascist infringement against the owner’s freedom of speech. After a while, the post was deleted.

However, Fonseca was still arrested and was charged with felony fraud charges related to the possession and use of a fake ID. Later that night, she was released on a $1,500 bond. After the press caught up with her, Fonseca and her husband reiterated that the real reason she was arrested at her home, in front of their six-year-old daughter, was because of the controversial decal on her back window.

Though the activist was reprimanded for speaking her opinion, she refuses to be silenced. Recently, she added another name to her truck: Sheriff Nehls’. Last Sunday night, she uploaded a photo of the truck’s back window to her Facebook page. The message now reads in full: “YEAH… FUCK TRUMP AND FUCK YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM. FUCK TROY NEHLS AND FUCK YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM.”

As Death by Taxes reports, Fonseca held a press conference last Monday with Texas State Representative Ron Reynolds. Said Reynolds,

We have to protect people’s First Amendment Right to Free Speech. A difference in political views does not give Sheriff Nehls the right to target citizens. These actions by Sheriff Nehls could be an abuse of his law enforcement authority.”

According to local NBC affiliate KPRC, Sheriff Nehls was “not surprised” by the addition of his name to Fonseca’s back window. Reportedly, he “thinks it is disgusting.”

Fonseca says that in the 11 months she has had the sticker on her truck, she has had no problems.
