Radiation Causes Breast Cancer Stem Cells to Spread, But 5 Amazing Plant Compounds Help Stop Them



There are multiple studies now showing that radiation and chemotherapy cause cancer cells to grow and become more resilient. Breast cancer cells, just like any other, are vulnerable to metastasis (when a pathogenic agent spreads from one place in the body to the rest of the body.) With the help of a few super-foods, we don’t have to turn to chemo and radiation for breast cancer – these miraculous foods do the cancer fighting for us.

Scientists warn in one study titled, Neoadjuvant chemotherapy induces breast cancer metastasis through a TMEM-mediated mechanism, warn that chemo – the procedure which costs people upwards of $10,000 per treatment, can create lethal tumors.

In the case of radiation, people believe that the therapy will help to prevent cancer from metastasizing, or spreading to other organs.  In fact, the purpose of radiotherapy is to decrease the chances of a local recurrence, not to prevent a systemic metastasis, and more often than not, cancer does spread to other organs, it just takes a little time.

Radiation Makes Cancer Cells 30 Times More Malignant

Even local recurrence of cancer when radiation therapy is used is only about 10-30 percent effective. Sadly, radiation makes cancer about 30 times more malignant, as discussed in a study performed by researchers from the Department of Radiation Oncology at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Despite the expensive and cancer-spreading effects of radiation and chemotherapy there are some simple foods which contain powerful anti-carcinogens.

Foods that Contain Just Five Ingredients are Likely More Effective at Killing Breast Cancer Cells than Radiation and Chemotherapy

The miraculous 5 ingredients: curcumin, piperine, EGCG, sulfurofane, and quercetin can help stop cancer cells in their tracks, while chemotherapy and radiation can make breast cancer spread.


Quercetin, a simple bioflavanoid (a flavanol) found in many foods from leafy greens to berries and broccoli. Quercetin’s powerful antioxidant action is the same thing that gives plants their bright colors. It also helps to inhibit the spread of breast cancer cells. If you already eat lots of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, you are likely getting plenty of quercetin.


Curcumin, another powerful antioxidant, inhibits the spread of cancerous cells in the breasts and lungs, and stops cancer cells from spreading at all in some cases, in any part of the body. Curcumin is one of the most active ingredients in the spice, turmeric, it is in fact, only one of three curcuminoids contained in turmeric. In addition to curcumin (diferuloylmethane), turmeric also contains bisdemethoxycurcumin and demethoxycurcumin, which are both derived from curcumin.


Piperine, commonly known as the bioactive compound of black pepper or Piper nigrum (P. nigrum) is commonly used in traditional medicine. This current study aimed to investigate the anticancer and cancer preventive activity of a piperine-free P. nigrum extract (PFPE) against breast cancer cells and N-nitrosomethylurea (NMU)-induced mammary tumorigenesis in rats. How’s that for some anti-breast cancer action?


 EGCG, or Epigallocatechin Gallate is a compound found in abundance in green tea, and is one of the most bio-available catechins of them all. It is also hugely cancer-preventative. It can help people prevent breast cancer due to its antioxidant abilities but it can also stop cancer from proliferating or metastasizing in those who already have it, while it starts to break down cancerous tumors.


Sulforaphane, this powerhouse plant compound found in things like broccoli and broccoli sprouts is also anti-cancerous. Sulforaphane inhibits breast cancer stem cells from flourishing. In multiple studies it completely eroded cancerous tumors. New research also suggests that there are hundreds if not thousands of times as much sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts than in the adult plant, so add them to your smoothies and salads to prevent breast cancer. There also happen to be dozens of additional health benefits form boosting immunity to guarding against diabetes and even acting as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent to protect against foreign pathogens.
