(TMU) — With every campaign stop, it seems that former Vice President Joe Biden is becoming increasingly unpopular with Democratic voters, especially younger ones. Things will likely get worse for Biden, after misspeaking and making racist remarks during a speech to the Asian & Latino Coalition in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday.
Speaking to an audience that consisted mostly of people of color, Biden said that “poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids.”
His comments can easily be interpreted to imply a number of different assumptions—all of which are rooted in racism.
“We should challenge students in these schools and have advanced placement programs in these schools. We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids,” Biden said.
He must have realized his error because he quickly attempted to save himself by adding, “Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids—no I really mean it, but think how we think about it.”
Then he made a strange remark about “dumbing it down,” although it is not exactly clear what he meant by that.
“We think how we’re going to dumb it down. They can do anything anybody else can do, given a shot,” Biden said.
This week, Biden joined many other democratic candidates in calling the current president a racist. However, during the recent Democratic debates, Biden was accused of supporting racist policies by his opponent Kamala Harris, and has fielded similar accusations throughout his candidacy.
As the Mind Unleashed reported earlier this month, Biden has plans to keep cannabis illegal if he is elected, by changing it to a Schedule 2 drug instead of Schedule 1, which means it would still be subject to extreme government regulation and oversight.
Biden has been a drug warrior throughout the bulk of his career and was instrumental in the criminalization of raves. A recently uncovered video from a 2001 hearing showed Biden threatening to arrest artists and musicians for hosting live events.
Biden initially appeared to be a favored candidate for the DNC and establishment media—and likely hoped to use his association with former President Barack Obama to win the country over—but Uncle Joe can’t seem to hide his true colors out on the campaign trail.
