Prince Harry and His Wife Meghan Markle “Step Back” From Royal Family
The royal family has been embroiled in controversy thanks to Prince Andrew’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
(TMU) — According to yesterday’s headlines, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were said to be considering a move to Canada in addition to quitting or stepping down from public life, on the heels of an extended 8-week trip to British Columbia—part of the British Commonwealth.
Tom Bradby, the author and journalist responsible for the television documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “considering their options.” The Sun also reported that the pair and their son, may move to Canada for a “significant portion” of the year.
All speculation can come to a rest today, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just released the following statement:
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”
The news quickly spread across social media.

Harry and Meghan’s engagement and subsequent May 2018 wedding made waves throughout the world.
Not only is Markle the first American to marry into the royal family since 1937, she is mixed race—her mother is black and her father is white, a fact that challenged long-held beliefs about the royal family. Save for some conservative British tabloids attempting to stir up controversy, Markle’s inclusion into the royal family was a welcome sight for many.
The royal family has been embroiled in controversy in recent weeks thanks to Prince Andrew’s longtime friendship with convicted pedophile and wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew’s attempt to put a lid on the controversy backfired in an epic car crash interview with the BCC.
In late November, the Duke of York asked his mother, the Queen, for permission to step back from public duties, saying he regretted his “ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein.” One month later, Andrew and his family sent holiday cards to family and friends that featured a photo of the backside of their dog.
A lawyer for some of Epstein’s accusers plans to serve subpoenas to Prince Andrew to testify as a witness in their cases.
As a result, Prince Charles, Harry’s father, has reportedly wanted to strip down the royal family to only him, his two sons, and their wives and children when he becomes king. The royal family appears to indeed be stripping down, but not quite in the lineage Charles had in mind.
