George Floyd’s Sister Calls For Murder Charges Against Cops As Video Proves They’re Lying

(TMU) – The Minneapolis police officers who were involved in the death of George Floyd have been fired from the police department, but they are still not facing any formal criminal charges, in a case that many people are saying is clearly murder.

In a recent interview, George Floyd’s sister called for all four officers to be charged with murder. While appearing on the Today show wearing a shirt that says “I can’t breathe,” Bridgett Floyd told the hosts that, “firing them is not enough justice.”

“I would like for those officers to be charged with murder because that’s exactly what they did. They murdered my brother; he was crying for help. I don’t need them to be suspended and able to work in another state or another county. Their licenses should be taken away; their jobs should be taken away, and they should be put in jail for murder. Firing them is just not enough,” she said.

Bridgett says that she couldn’t bring herself to watch the video of her brother’s death, but thanked the bystanders who were taking video and attempting to hold the police accountable.

There were four officers on the scene at the time of the incident, one who kept the gathering crowds away, and three who were forcefully handling Mr. Floyd, and their names have not been released by the police department. However, two of the officers seen in the video, Derek Chauvin and Tou Thao were identified by Ben Crump, the attorney representing the Floyd family.

Both of these officers have a bad track record with excessive force complaints and police-involved shootings. In the video, both officers can be seen pinning Floyd to ground, as Chauvin keeps his knee on Floyd’s neck for several minutes. Eventually, after about ten minutes of pleading for his life, along with gathering bystanders, Floyd lost consciousness, and was then put on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital where he never woke up.

The Minneapolis Police Department claim that the officers were attempting to arrest Floyd for using forged documents at a local deli, and that he resisted arrest.

“He was ordered to step from his car. After he got out, he physically resisted officers. Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress,” police spokesman John Elder claimed in a statement.

However, new security camera footage from a nearby restaurant that captured the beginning of the confrontation shows Floyd being removed from his car by police without resisting at all. Furthermore, the videos taken by onlookers show Floyd begging for his life and telling officers that he was submitting to arrest.

Large demonstrations have sprung up around the city in response to the killing. Thousands of people took to the streets to protest the actions of the police and demand justice. Most of the protests were peaceful, but there were some small acts of vandalism directed at police property. At one point during the demonstrations, thousands of people surrounded the police department.
