10 Manifestations of an Awakening Self

If one had to look for a common point of departure amongst many spiritual traditions, I think that it has to be the idea of the embodied spirit. In other words – the idea that we are essentially spiritual beings embodied in a magnificent bio-physical machine on a short experiential trip to the physical third dimensional world. To expand this anecdote a little bit more, I would add that our spiritual Self is also connected to a superb parallel processing computer – the brain – which helps us make sense of our surroundings in this dimension but at the same time overrides the multi-dimensional knowledge coming from the full spectrum of Self (sometimes short bursts of information passes through in moments of intuition and deep insight).

One can take an angle shot of this and see our waking consciousness (our thoughts, self image, desires, etc) as being only a small fragment of the whole spectrum of Self despite the illusion that what we see, think or feel is all there is and it’s the only reality. We forgot who we are. It’s like we were flashed with one of the memory erasers in Men in Black and made to forget a good chunk about ourselves before incarnating in this world. Tragic-comical but true!

The path to spiritual awakening is in fact characterised by a recognition of Self, a remembrance of who we really are. It is the transcending  beyond the ego-consciousness and exiting the matrix so to speak. It is bypassing that default override setting of the waking consciousness which filters out the deeper implicit knowledge from our multidimensional consciousness. It is of course also called awakening because we awake from the illusion, the dream and the sleep-walking from years of enculturation and biological constraints.

But what is the awakening Self? As any other metaphysical concept, it is difficult to explain unambiguously in one shot. It is best to describe its effects or manifestations. Sometimes it’s easier to explain what a thing does than what it is. Here are some anecdotes that draws a rounder picture of what it means to have an awakening Self.

1. Feeling your life rekindled with a new found passion

When you start recognising yourself for who you truly are, it becomes more evident how the consensual reality you have shared with others is inauthentic and serves you very little purpose. You no longer need to follow goals or benchmarks set by society and culture – you set your own goals and dreams. You are no longer a fragmented automaton in a pre-programmed social matrix but a free complete individual on the path to self-actualisation. You start aligning to your life purpose and true potential. You start doing things that drive you and which you are passionate about. Your worldview changes together with your values and how you prioritise them.

You feel your life is rekindled with a new found passion because you understand the value of living life your way and the freedom to do so.

2. Aware of fresh new opportunities – The Abundance Mindset

Your awakening Self is not longer a victim of misinformation and fear fed by the mass media and regurgitated by people around you.

You are no longer tranced by the narrative replayed by the dominating culture. You have seen beyond all that.

The culturally transmitted fears, ‘values’ and limiting beliefs start becoming a thing of the past. They do not hold you down anymore. You start becoming acquainted with the infinite and the abundant. Your horizons expand by a thousandfold. You see abundance, opportunity and infinite possibilities where before you only saw scarcity and a future closing down on you. You awareness expands and you can now see opportunities pop out at you as shining beacons of light.

3. Start Mastering the energies within and without

A true master of the Self is a master of the energies within and around.

This is probably one of the most powerful manifestations of the awakening Self. We are mostly unaware and unconscious of these energies. Through the awakening of the Self, you become very sensitive of otherwise imperceptible forces and energies such as those coming from thoughts, intentions (yours and others), emotions, the body, your environment and your psyche.

Negative emotions and thoughts or limiting beliefs, for example, create blockages in the flow of energy. Same thing if you surround yourself with negative  people. Removing energy blocks and working harmoniously with them is the crucial first step for the awakening of the Self.

The intuitive healer Christie Marie Sheldon, for instance, has worked with thousands of people to help them clear their energies and attune to a higher frequency vibration through her best-selling programme Love or Above. It is to my knowledge, the most comprehensive and best produced self-help programme on the subject so far.

4. Kickstarting creative ideas

You are aligned with your true nature, your feelings and intuition. Your mind is in harmony with your heart. Inner conflict subsides. This opens the doors of creativity wide open. You tacitly understand the uselessness of over-analysing problems and tap directly to your source of creativity which nourishes you with ideas, solutions and new perspectives you couldn’t find possible before.

5. You see change with optimism

You start relating to your life differently. Your actions are no longer hindered by your fears and over-thinking. You adapt more freely to life circumstances and you are completely at ease with change. This is also made possible because you do not have a limited self image and identity. The image of your Self becomes constantly refreshed and rejuvenated as you adapt to life’s changing currents.

You embrace the Phoenix spirit as you feel reborn and refreshed through each turning point in your life.

6. You realise your new found energy can make positive changes in your Life

Awakening to who your truly are brings a new sense of confidence. You are empowered by the knowledge that this creative energy you are tapping into is propelling you forward and closer to your self-actualisation everyday. You understand how this creative and positive energy is creating your life and destiny.

You fully embrace this power of self-mastery and you recognise yourself as a creator rather than a mere creature.

7. You start seeing the pieces fitting in together

One of the most rewarding things of awakening to your real Self is the easiness of how everything else falls into place. It becomes progressively easier to follow your life purpose and your goals. Things start becoming more and more effortless because you become whole as opposed to experiencing a fragmented self. You become more aware of your multidimensional consciousness and how you fit perfectly in a congenial and sustaining web of life.

You see the pieces fitting in together and this gives you immense trust, peace and self-empowerment.

This is akin to the Taoist philosophy and the concept of Wu Wei (Action through non-action). Since you have no internal friction and energies blocking you, you become attuned to the workings of a higher order principle – The Tao.

8. Everything feels is energising you

Instead of feeling dragged down by life’s currents, you start feeling energised by whatever is going on in your daily life – new experiences & encounters, spending time with yourself and others, change and opening up to fresh new ideas. Everything becomes a booster an enabler rather than an obstacle to fulfilment. You perceive your life with greater optimism, peace and acceptance. You start seeing synchronicity and things happening and unfolding before you.

9. Your subconscious is working for you and not against you

Simplistically speaking, the subconscious mind has been understood as having a twofold nature. On the one hand it unlocks creative ideas and insights that the conscious mind is blind to. On the other hand it is seen as a raw and untameable psychic energy that wells out strong impulses or repressed emotions that can emerge to sabotage the individual.

The awakening Self is clear of all psychological and psychic blockages manifested through addictions, repressions, complexes, etc. It is open, clear and in balance. There are no bottle necks or blockages. The subconscious mind becomes only a powerful ally. It gives your signs and information at the right time. Its messages are positive and cooperative rather than negative or self-destructive.

10. You feel whole and complete ( and where you should be)

As mentioned earlier, we feel fragmented by default. Our thoughts are fragmented and out of sync with our inner motivations. The goals we follow are influenced or imposed by society and are in conflict with our authentic goals and destiny. This fragmentation creates, inner turbulence, difficulties and blockages. A clear manifestation of an awakening Self is the feeling of completeness. You feel that you are always where you should be and that everything is perfect the way it is. You no longer struggle or run after things and ideas that do not belong to you. You are at one with your purpose and everything you do.
