Drunk Man Saves Baby Bird’s Life by Paying Uber to Bring It to Rescue Center
The man who “had a few too many” sent the bird in an Uber to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Utah.
(TMU) — In early July, a conscientious partygoer didn’t let his buzz prevent him from saving a baby bird’s life. After he found the abandoned avian, the man who “had a few too many” sent the lesser goldfinch in an Uber to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Northern Utah (WRCNU).
It was late when staff at WRCNU received a call from inebriated Tim Crowley. Reportedly, he and a group of friends were drinking and chatting when a baby bird fell from the sky. They couldn’t figure out where it came from, so they called the rescue center. The staff recommended the bird be transported to receive immediate care. But, Crowley was too drunk to drive. So, he called an Uber and paid the driver to deliver the goldfinch.
“At first it was a joke, like, ‘Hey, maybe we should just call Uber!’” he told KSTU. “Then we were like, ‘No, really. Why not? We’re paying them.’”
It took two tries to secure a ride for the peculiar passenger. Apparently, the first Uber driver cancelled the trip after Crowley called and tried to explain the situation. So, the second time around, the intoxicated activist waited until the Uber driver arrived until he filled her in on the details.
When the bird did finally arrive at the center, the staff were taken by surprise. However, they quickly prepared to treat the bird—named Petey—for malnourishment and dehydration. Within a matter of weeks, Petey will be ready for release into the Utah wilderness.
