Source Claims Jeffrey Epstein Hanged Himself With a Bedsheet

(TMU) — New details are emerging about what may have happened in Jeffrey Epstein’s cell at the Special Housing Unit of the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) leading up to the discovery of his body on Saturday morning.

According to the New York Post, Epstein’s body was found hanging by the top bunk of the bed in his cell. A bedsheet was wrapped around his neck.

At the same time, the Post also claims that according to law enforcement, 6-foot-tall Epstein knelt down toward the floor, strangling himself.

He was found “unresponsive” around 6:30 a.m. after not having been checked on for hours. Prison staff attempted to revive the convicted pedophile before being taken to the infirmary. Epstein was then transported to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A source familiar with the case told CBS News that “shouting and shrieking” was heard coming from Epstein’s cell the morning of his death and that staff were saying “breathe, Epstein, breathe” while attempting to revive him.

This claim directly contradicts a different New York Post article written by a former inmate at MCC who spent time in the prison’s 9 South special housing unit where Epstein was also housed. The former inmate wrote:

“You have sheets, but they’re paper level, not strong enough. He was 200 pounds — it would never happen.”

The inmate also said:

“Between the floor and the ceiling is like eight or nine feet. There’s no way for you to connect to anything.”

Law enforcement officials told the Post on Sunday that there is no surveillance video of Epstein’s death. While there are cameras in the 9 South wing where Epstein was being held, sources familiar with the layout of the MCC said that they are aimed at areas outside of the cells—not inside.

As previously reported by the Mind Unleashed, a report from the New York Times revealed that guards failed to follow required protocols in the time leading up to Epstein’s death, whether or not Epstein was still on suicide watch. A law enforcement source also claims that Epstein’s cellmate was transferred, leaving him alone in the cell—another violation of normal procedure.

Epstein, 66, was arrested in early July on sex trafficking charges. At the time of his death, Epstein was being held in custody without bond. His death came barely two weeks after he was discovered at MCC in the fetal position with marks around his neck on the floor of his cell.

A reporter for the Washington Post and occasional contributor to MSNBC, tweeted on Saturday morning that the billionaire reportedly told officials that he was attacked weeks prior to his death.

Just moments ago, the warden of the Metropolitan Correctional Center was reassigned under orders of Attorney General William Barr on Tuesday, while the U.S. Bureau of Prisons placed two staffers who had been assigned to Epstein’s cell unit on administrative leave.
