Viral mega-star Khaby Lame is easily one of the most-liked online personalities. However, he’s also officially the most-followed person on the video-sharing platform.

Khaby is a Senegalese Italian TikTok host famous for his perfectly wordless, sarcastic responses to the goofy “life hack” videos that proliferate online.

Dubbed “the Everyman of the Internet” by the New York Times, the 21-year-old former factory worker has been using TikTok’s duet and stitch features since losing his job in March 2020 to reach a stunning 83.6 million fans on the platform.

He has rapidly overtook the most-followed account on TikTok – Charli D’Amelio, a dancer with over 119 million followers.

Khaby’s formula is brilliant in its simplicity – he simply puts the ridiculously complicated “solutions,” trends and hacks across the internet on display and reacts with a simple hand gesture.

The complicated “life hacks” include using a bizarre tool that looks like a torture device to put on socks, or slicing an easy-to-peel fruit with a knife.

“His content almost debunks or mocks the overproduced trends that happen across social media, whether it’s life hacks or other things like that,” said internet creator analyst Samir Chaudry. “He almost represents this authenticity over production. I think that’s very appealing at scale to people, this feeling of someone not trying too hard, it’s something that feels authentic.”

Khaby may also be one of the first people in the world to shoot to absolute super-stardom without uttering a single word. Instead, his claim to fame is his signature shrug.

“It’s my face and my expressions which make people laugh,” Khaby told the Times in an interview last month, noting that his silent reaction is a “global language.”

While Khaby is making decent money from his online prominence, he is still saving so that he can finally buy his mother her own home.
