The Orcs in The New ‘Rings of Power’ Series Look Absolutely Terrifying

I mean, you have to hand it to Jeff there.

The orcs in the newly released The Lord of the Rings prequel, The Rings of Power, have the audience in complete and total terror.

The eight-part prequel, which takes place thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, is notable for being the most costly production in the annals of television history.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the new program, which premiered on Prime Video yesterday (September 2), had a production budget of about $715 million dollars. Now, that’s impressive, but its probably just a drop in the water compared to the total profits of Amazon. (Just saying)

While a good number of viewers give the impression that they are enjoying the show, a sizeable section of the fan base gives the impression that they are totally scared by the new orcs, and an even larger amount of people seem to be “review bombing” the crap out of the series on Rotten Tomatoes and IMBD. Amazon even went as far as to halt user ratings on the show.

Some people have some interesting things to say about the show on twitter:

At this time, we can’t tell if this is just just a troll campaign or if people genuinely hate this show. I mean it really is a little too early to tell if it’s going to suck or not, with only 2 episodes being out.

I mean… LOL.

But, all that said, there are people who obviously like it, with Ladbible reporting that people are taking to twitter to fawn over the new orcs, saying things like:

One person said: “Just watched, beautiful! And damn I am now scared of orcs. You made me genuinely scared of 1 orc. Nice one!”

A second added: “I loved it. A little slow with the first episode, but omigosh the orcs in the second???

“I’ve never been scared of orcs until that episode.” said another..

“No orc love story. Orcs are way to scary in this show and that is great! The show looks amazing. Makes me happy.” and another..

“Idc what nobody says…ORCS ARE SCARY AF #TheRingsOfPower.”

While a fifth added: “Okay, so far I’m really digging #RingsOfPower. They made the orcs real scary, y’all, hot damn.”

“Who else is loving #TheRingOfPower? The Orcs are pure scary,” another said.

You get the picture..

The following is an excerpt from the show’s official plot summary: “Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history.”

“This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.”

“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone,” it concludes.
