106 House Republicans Demand Supreme Court To Declare Trump Winner Of Election

More than half of the Republicans in Congress have filed a brief with the Supreme Court, demanding that the nation’s highest court name Donald Trump as the winner of the 2020 election.

106 House Republicans in total signed the brief and refusing to accept the results of the election, despite the results being certified in all 50 states this week.

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, Rep. Greg Gianforte of Montana, and Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York, are among the congressman who signed the brief.

The brief claims that “The unconstitutional irregularities involved in the 2020 presidential election cast doubt upon its outcome and the integrity of the American system of elections.”

This push began with a lawsuit that was filed on Tuesday by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The lawsuit called for the Supreme Court block Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, and Wisconsin from casting their electoral college votes for President-Elect Joe Biden. If the lawsuit is successful, it would effectively hand the election to Donald Trump. Earlier in the week, 17 Republicans backed the move, and on Thursday that number jumped to over 100.

However, many experts believe that these Republicans are fighting a losing battle because the case is not strong enough to make it to the Supreme Court.

“At core, Texas is recycling legal claims that have already failed, but through a lawsuit that suffers from a whole host of additional procedural problems,” Lisa Marshall Manheim, constitutional and election law professor at University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, recently told Bloomberg News.

Pennsylvania attorney general Josh Shapiro said that Paxon’s lawsuit is based on a “surreal alternate reality.”

“Texas’s effort to get this Court to pick the next President has no basis in law or fact. The Court should not abide by this seditious abuse of the judicial process, and should send a clear and unmistakable signal that such abuse must never be replicated,” he said, according to Vanity Fair.

Paxon is also facing legal problems of his own, as he is currently under investigation by the FBI for corruption. Some Democrats have suggested that President Trump is planning to pardon Paxon in exchange for his election lawsuit.

The Trump team has had very few successes in court, in fact, they have one had one win out of 54 cases, and they have lost 53 cases in various states since their challenge of the election began.

In a phone interview with Fox News two weeks ago, Trump acknowledged that his legal battle “probably” won’t reach the Supreme Court, because it is “very hard to get a case to the Supreme Court.”

According to a Washington Post survey, only 25 Congressional Republicans have acknowledged President-elect Biden’s victory.
