(TMU) — Billionaire and alleged child sex trafficker Jefferey Epstein is dead by an apparent suicide, according to law enforcement officials.
His body was discovered around 7:30 Saturday morning at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. The 66-year-old died by hanging, according to police.
A gurney carrying a man who resembled Epstein was spotted being carted out of the facility and was taken to New York Downtown Hospital.
Epstein’s death comes just 24 hours after a cache of documents were unsealed detailing many of the billionaire’s accused crimes. In the court records included accusations of sexual impropriety against many powerful people, including former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Prince Andrew, financier Glenn Dubin, former U.S. Senator George Mitchell, MIT scientist Marvin Minsky, and modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel.
The accusations came via a deposition by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who stated that Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell employed her as a “masseuse” when she was still underage. Giuffre stated that “massage” was code sexual activity and that her employment was the equivalent to being held as sex slave.
Epstein was placed on suicide watch on July 23rd after he was found semi-conscious on the floor of his jail cell with marks on his neck and in the fetal position.
