Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are set to be sworn in as president and vice president of the United States on Wednesday, taking power amid a devastating pandemic made worse by the malfeasance and incompetence of twice-impeached President Donald Trump.
Scheduled to begin just after 11:00 am ET, the inauguration ceremony will be unlike any other due to coronavirus-related health restrictions and heightened security measures implemented amid fears that right-wing extremists loyal to outgoing President Donald Trump could launch an attack on the event.
Trump, who will not be in attendance at the inauguration, left Washington, D.C. for Florida Wednesday morning after delivering a brief speech to supporters.
Biden is expected to be sworn in at noon.
