Mom Orders Shirt for 3-Year-Old From Chinese Retailer, Gets One That Says “Fuck the Police”

Sometimes when you mail-order products from online Chinese retailers, you never know what you’ll get.

Those $3 aviator sunglasses could be a blatant bootleg of Ray-Ban sunglasses, and those $10 “fashion headphones” may end up being a perfect copy of Beats by Dr. Dre. And then there are the hilarious cases of “Chinglish” – nonsensical and often hilarious English messages translated from Chinese that are awkwardly worded and occasionally, downright offensive.

Such was the case for Kelsey Dawn Williamson, a 23-year-old mom in Benton, Illinois, who ordered what she thought was an adorable t-shirt for her three-year-old daughter Salem, which displayed the beloved children’s book characters Frog And Toad.

The shirt retails for about $5 in the “LadyBaby Store” on AliExpress.com, the Hangzhou-based online mega-retailer.

The page advertising the shirt describes the product as “Kids Two Frog Riding Design Baby Boys/Girl TShirt Kids Funny Short Sleeve Tops Children Cute T-Shirt.”

But when Williamson finally received what she expected would be a G-rated children’s t-shirt, she found that the shirt was emblazoned with a decidedly adult-oriented design element: the timeless slogan, “FUCK THE POLICE.”

Williamson told BuzzFeed News:

“I literally did not know how to react so I just took a few moments to stare at it and try to process … Of all the things they could have added, why that? On a children’s size shirt?”

She immediately FaceTimed her husband and they “just screamed together.”

She added:

“We both just lost it, dying of laughter. All he could say was, ‘oh shit.'”

Williamson, of course, did what any sensible parent would do: she put the t-shirt on Salem, who of course couldn’t comprehend the words on the design — but loved it nonetheless.

She then posted the photo of her daughter wearing the tee to Facebook, where she wrote:

“What I ordered VS what I received.

I fucking love China. I cannot stop screaming. WHO DOES THIS.”

The Frog And Toad image, along with the slogan was clearly lifted from the internet, where the “Fuck the Police” meme has long been in circulation and is believed to have originated on Reddit.

She later explained to KidSpot how the photo began its inexorable trend toward total virality:

“I originally just shared the t-shirt with only my friends until one of them wanted to share it to their profile, so I made it public. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to go this far. It all happened so fast.”

While most people have been highly amused by the images, some internet bullies began shaming her and her daughter for her weight.

Williamson said:

“People were actually messaging me just to say mean things about her. A ton of people calling her fat, asking me what I feed her to make her so big, telling me the shirt I bought was too small.”

However, Williamson remains in good spirits and has learned to ignore the mean messages from the small minority of spiteful netizens.

And rather than feeling anger toward the Chinese retailer, she has a much greater appreciation for the hilarious product than the innocuous one that was falsely advertised.

Laughing, Williamson explained:

“I’ve told [Salem] ‘people really like your frog shirt!’ It’s going in her baby box so we can bring it up when she’s older.”
