Epstein Told Authorities Someone Tried to Kill Him Weeks Before “Suicide”: WaPo Reporter

(TMU) — Carol Leonnig, a reporter for the Washington Post and occasional contributor to MSNBC, tweeted shortly after news broke of Jeffrey Epstein’s death on Saturday morning, that the billionaire reportedly told officials that he was attacked weeks prior to his death.

In another tweet, Leonnig seemed to clarify that the attack reported by Epstein was related to the reported “suicide” attempt by the accused sex trafficker on July 23. It was widely reported that Epstein was placed on “suicide watch” as a result of that incident.

However, NBC reported on Saturday morning that Epstein was found unresponsive in his federal jail cell in downtown Manhattan and was not on suicide watch at the time of his death.

It is still unclear if Epstein was ever actually placed on suicide watch and if—or when—he was later removed from the intensive monitoring process.

Attorney General William Barr stated that he was “appalled to learn that Jeffrey Epstein was found dead” while in federal custody.

“Mr. Epstein’s death raises serious questions that must be answered,” Barr added.

The 66-year-old died by hanging, according to police.

A gurney carrying a man who resembled Epstein was spotted being carted out of Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, shortly after reports of Epstein’s death surfaced.
