The Astrological New Year, Spring Equinox Begins

Published

on

March 20 marks the beginning of the Spring or Vernal Equinox, known as the beginning of the New Year, astrologically speaking. In this coming season, we will get to see the restorative actions of the feminine, which happen under the cloak and womb of winter be birthed into manifest form with the masculine presence of the Sun.

This Equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – an imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from south to north. This happens on March 19, 20 or 21 every year.

Twice every year, during the Spring and Autumn Equinox, the length of the days and nights are equal – also signifying a rebalancing of the masculine and feminine energies.

In honor of this seasonal change, and the alignment of the stars, we can feel supported by making bold steps toward our goals, as the seeds have already been planted. Reaffirm your life’s purpose and take massive action toward it this year as this action will be rewarded.

Other aspects of this astrological time (2017-2020) include:

Chiron, Venus and Mercury will be forces that guide massive collective healing as Chiron loops past the zero degree Aries point. This is a good time to notice your egoic projections and people or circumstances that trigger old wounds. Forgive them, heal these wounds, and let those old thoughts go. This pattern of egoic limitation no longer serves you.

The moon conjunct with Saturn and the square of the sun support creative challenges. You will need to help your inner critic shrink so that your massive creative gifts can be shared with the world. Julia Cameron, speaking on her best-selling book, The Artist’s Way, once said that you should write this down five times and notice the negative self-talk that happens in between the words and sentences you compose: “I (insert name) am a prolific and talented (painter, play-write novelist, writer, poet, composer, musician, sculptor, etc.)

She observes that the negative self-talk will almost always take a sarcastic tone. Sarcasm comes from the Greek word meaning to sneer or jest, but its truer meaning is to cut at the flesh. Don’t let your creativity be murdered by your inner critic. Its time is up. Talk back to the voice in your head.

Jupiter opposite Uranus and Square Pluto will mean we need to revisit diplomacy as Uranus and Pluto revisit their old beef about breaking down patriarchy. Try empathy and creative compromise so that you don’t get caught up in the angry fire of these waring planets.

Most importantly, honor how far you’ve come. Because much of the work of the feminine is done in the darkness of winter, the bounty of her harvest is often minimized or overlooked come Spring. The sun, in all its glory helps that feminine energy blossom, quite literally, with flowers bursting open, and trees growing new leaves, but remember that you did lots of work to get to this moment, and keep up your efforts as Spring moves into Fall.
