The same technology is available to use on floors and Imperial Interiors is one of the companies creating unique 3D epoxy floors with an unbelievably realistic illusion of depth, turning the floor of any room into whatever you desire, such as a coral reef, a beach, a canyon, a waterfall, or a forest floor.

3D epoxy floors are not about plastering a giant picture onto a floor, but rather creating a large-scale art project directly on the floor and then covering it all in epoxy.

Like most beautiful things, creating a 3D floor is an involved process which starts with leveling the floor surface with a layer of self-leveling screed. Once cured, this is followed by the image or design of choice and then treated with a transparent, two-component polymer to add the illusion of depth. It is then left to cure. The final step is to seal the floor with a layer of protective lacquer.

According to the creators of 3D floor technology, most of their creations have been done in malls and other places of business but the same technology is easily scaled down for use in homes and rooms of any size. Imagine having a floor of your favorite place, real or imagined, and creating that relaxing and peaceful atmosphere in your bedroom or bathroom. Perhaps a forest trail through the hallway or a koi pond in the kitchen?

Imperial Interior’s website gives an estimate of from $100 to $500 per square meter of 3D epoxy flooring. Prices vary depending on the condition of the floor base, the type and design of the 3D floor selected as well as the the condition of the floor base, the type and design of the 3D floor that you select, along with the level of difficulty of the work involved. The cost includes materials, the cost of patterns (3D images or cost of paint), base preparation, and installation work.

The company’s website states:

‘’Decorative flooring – it’s not just a picture, a large-scale art object, which fundamentally changes the idea of what might look like flooring. On the one hand – it’s surface, and the other – a whole image, with all shades and textures.’’

“3D technology developers hardly imagined how varied and interesting their ideas are for the future. Today 3D floors are done in shopping malls, large halls, office buildings, apartments and homes.’’

Options you could try to create a 3D floor yourself include using 3D floor wallpaper, so called by various sellers on Etsy. Basically it’s a giant vinyl image that can be stuck to the floor to create a unique 3D illusion. Using innovative printing technology and unbelievably high picture image resolutions that can turn your floor into a sandy beach, a flower, or perhaps a floor of hot lava!
