A Canadian candy company is now offering a chance of a lifetime.
Candy Funhouse, a popular online retailer of delicious treats from chocolate bars to gummies and licorice, is looking to hire someone for a $78,000 a year ($100,000 Canadian) work-from-home job as its Chief Candy Officer.
The job role is simple—you eat candy, and then you talk about how it tastes.
Duties include: “leading candy board meetings, being the head taste tester … and all things fun.”
Several thousand people have already applied for the new position, which was recently posted on LInkedIn. Chief Executive Officer Jamal Hejazi said he’s been surprised by the number of “golden ticket” themed applications referencing the story of Charlie and the Charlie Factory, as well as the elaborate videos from families offering to split the salary and tasting duties.
Candy Funhouse, a company based outside of Toronto, is headed by a group of four siblings in their 20s and 30s who grew up around the area and whose parents owned donut shops and a local restaurant.
The family sought to set their business apart from other extremely successful rivals like Mars, Hershey, and Amazon with a “weird” product mix, no minimum orders, and a significant social media plan.
Sales in 2021 were “just under $15 million. I’m not kidding,” Hejazi said.
Candy Funhouse has 340,000 Instagram followers and more than three million on Tik-Tok, including a Kardashian.
Candidates as young as five years old can apply for the Chief Candy Officer position, though it is likely that parental consent will be needed. Many parents have already posted videos of their kid completing the job application and posting it online.
The candy company is currently getting ready for Halloween, which was by far its greatest sales season last year.
The family still retains a 90% ownership stake in Candy Funhouse.
