Brand New Electric Jeep Wrangler Concept Goes 0-60 Mph in Only 2 Seconds

Jeep has created an all-electric concept version of its trademark Wrangler as the company transitions away from gas-guzzlers and toward zero-emission electric vehicles, reports NBC.

Jeep showcased its Magneto 2.0 concept car a year after the Stellantis brand debuted the initial edition of its all-electric SUV, the Jeep Wrangler Magneto. Concept cars are one-of-a-kind items that are often created by automakers to assess consumer interest or to demonstrate the future direction of a vehicle or a company.

According to Jeep, the Magneto 2.0 concept SUV is based on the company’s regular Wrangler Rubicon SUV, but it has a substantial improvement in performance, including the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds. At 6.8 seconds, this is quicker than the Wrangler Magneto 1.0, and it’s on par with Tesla’s high-performance Plaid vehicles.

Jeep claims the Magneto 2.0 can provide up to 850 ft-lbs of torque and 625 horsepower. It also has a new electric powertrain tuning, dubbed “electronic nitrous oxide” by Jeep, to improve 0-60 mph time. The mechanism enables the car to retain peak power for 10 seconds.

NBC reports that the Magneto’s six-speed manual gearbox is unusual among electric cars. Jeep claims the e-transmission combines the benefits of an automatic gearbox with the direct-drive sensation of a manual transmission.

The Magneto 2.0 visual changes include a black front grille, a bespoke bikini top with a sunroof, white side stripes that fade into blue at the back, and a modest “2.0” emblem on the Magneto trademark. The Magneto 2.0 also features 20-inch rims with 40-inch tires instead of 35-inch tires and is three inches higher than last year’s model, reports The Verge.

They didn’t provide the projected battery range, which would be a wonderful measure to compare to the true all-electric Jeep coming next year. The Stellantis-owned company offers only plug-in hybrids, including the Chrysler Pacifica minivan and 4xe versions of the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.

Because the Magneto is a concept, it is not available for purchase by the general public, yet. The Jeep Wrangler will be available in all-electric form at some time in the future, according to industry predictions.
