A wild police chase in Oregon ended in semi-slapstick manner as a man fleeing officers in a stolen car smashed his car into a woman driving another stolen car.

It’s one of those stories that seems like it might have come from The Onion, but no – it’s just a wacky tale from the police blotter in eastern Oregon.

According to the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, the debacle unfolded after officers responded to a report that a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser was being driven around downtown Newberg on Sunday morning.

When police located the stolen vehicle, they attempted to apprehend the driver. However, he tried to flee and led the cops on a chase through several blocks before colliding with a Buick Regal.

Officers then arrested the driver of the first car, 27-year-old Randy Lee of Portland.

However, they soon realized that the second car was also reportedly stolen in a completely separate crime three weeks prior. Additionally, they found that the driver – 25-year-old Kristin Nicole Begue of Newberg – was under the influence of intoxicants, according to a police press release.

Cooper was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude police, third-degree assault, reckless driving, and other related crimes.

Kristin Nicole Begue was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Both car thieves appear to be in decent condition following their failed adventures, judging by Cooper’s slightly embarrassed grin and Begue’s broad smile in their respective mugshots.

Hopefully, the two young adults exchanged numbers during the booking process – after all, they do seem perfect for each other.

As one cheeky Twitter user noted, this might be less a case of Bonnie and Clyde and more a case of “Bonnie and collide.”
