“Free Britney”: Elon Musk Tweets in Support of Pop Star
Musk joins a number of famous figures and celebrities who have come out in support of Britney Spears amid her conservatorship battle.
Tesla CEO and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took a break from endorsing obscure cryptocurrencies on Monday to come out in support of pop superstar Britney Spears amid her continued conservatorship battle.
“Free Britney,” Musk wrote in an uncharacteristically conscientious tweet.
The mega-billionaire may have been influenced to drop the message at least in part by his wife, pop star Grimes, who replied to the tweet with an equally brief, “Thank u”.
Musk joins a number of famous figures and celebrities who have come out in support of Britney since her tragic testimony on June 23.
The “Toxic” singer broke a 13-year silence about her conservatorship in a 24-minute testimony, denouncing the alleged abuse she has suffered at the hands of her father, Jamie Spears, who has exercised stifling control over her life and wealth.
“I just want my life back,” she said in her testimony. “And it’s been 13 years. And it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve owned my money. And it’s my wish and my dream for all of this to end without being tested.”
Britney also claims that the most fundamental aspects of her life have been limited, including her mental and physical health, her finances, and her ability to have a child.
“I’ve been in denial; I’ve been in shock; I am traumatized,” she said. “I just want my life back.”
Since then, a number of celebrities including Christina Aguilera and Iggy Azalea have called for Britney to have her right to make decisions about her own life restored to her.
