Artist Creates Remarkable Glass Sculptures Using The Fibonacci Sequence [Video]

Look to some of the most famous works in history, and you will find that they all have something in common: the Fibonacci sequence, otherwise known as the golden ratio.

This ratio is found in everything in nature, from atoms to unimaginable celestial bodies.

Over time, humans have realized this, which is why so many works — including the Mona Lisa and famous architectural structures — incorporate the ratio. The Fibonacci sequence maintains balance and is pleasing to the eye, which is why another artist named Jack Storms also uses it when creating astonishing glass art sculptures.

Storms, who is based in Los Angeles, California, combines lead crystal and dichroic glass using a cold-glass process to create his art. As EducateInspireChange shares, the number of artisans who do this can be counted on one hand: 

“What I do is I don’t use any heat at all, I grind and grind and grind and then I polish, that’s what separates me from everybody else. It’s much more difficult and it takes a lot more time. But for me the effects are just brilliant,” said Storms.

Believe it or not, each piece can take from 8 to 18 weeks to complete. But for Storms, the process is worth it because the effort results in stunning masterpieces.

The artist utilizes the golden ratio because he understands natural beauty is created, not manufactured, and does his best to honor the natural world with his creations.
